I grew up in a very small town where we lived in a nice big house with a huge vegetable garden. I always loved the smell of our garden. especially in summer when we had lots of fruits and vegetables in it. Fresh, home-grown vegetables, the smell of tomatoes, peppers, cabbage-reminds me of my childhood. Because vegetable smells nice. I'm not talking about vegetables you buy in the store, oh no. Unfortunately they do not smell nice.
The good news is that when you have a small garden. You really don't need a large-you can grow your own tasty and juicy tomatoes giants which by the way little much nicer than the ones you buy in the store. The big question is to remove or not to prune your tomatoes. There are advantages and disadvantages as well. First let's see the advantages of pruning. What is pruning?
Prune basically means having your plant and thinning of side shoots or suckers growing off the main shot. When we grow tomatoes we also want to maximize the efficiency of photosynthesis and minimize the risk of disease.
The advantages of prune your tomatoes:
-When you live in a cooler climate you still can grow tomatoes and here comes the pruning for the image. You really need more sun and pruning aid your tomatoes to get enough sunlight.
-Pruning also creates an airflow brilliant because they need their air also tomato plants. If is enough air so no wet leaves or more moisture.
-If your tomatoes are affected by insects or diseases pruning can help stop the spread.
-Pruning results in bigger, juicier or even giant tomatoes. You may not have tomatoes that many, but the quality is going better. Remember, sometimes less is more!
-Pruning makes your garden nicer and more organized.
-It will also help your plants grow faster.
Now we go through advantages of pruning tomatoes. Let's see the disadvantages:
-For example-live in a warmer climate, you have to be careful with pruning because it can clog the amount your tomatoes due to exposure to the Sun too hot. Your tomatoes may get burned easily.
-Pruning can also reduce the yield of tomatoes.
-When you prune your tomatoes is really important that your tools have to be clean and sharp otherwise can be very bad for your plants.
-Pruning is hard work, requires knowledge, time and of course great effort to be prepared.
There's really not right or wrong answer here. For gardeners who swear by it, but others don't prune at all. It is basically your choice, you decide. If you live for example in a cooler climate pruning is a good choice. Always examine your own situation and decide.
