March can get a little tricky to gardeners. Much depends on the time and the rest depends on the area of the country in which you live. Gardening really starts in March. If you get a starting point in your garden now, you will be rewarded with a healthy garden, complete the rest of season gardening. The following are general tips for gardening gardening in March and that the plant in March:
1. March is the month of garden cleanup. Even if you live in warmer areas of gardening, March is an excellent time to get into your garden and remove old leaves and foliage of the previous year. Cut out any dead wood on deciduous trees and shrubs and perennial pruning branches Brown. (Not pruning Evergreen way, however.)
2. March is a good time to fertilize. (If you live in colder areas of gardening and the ground is still covered with snow and ice, or it is still too frozen to dig, you may need to wait until the ground begins to thaw to fertilize. Do not fertilize until the ground is melted.) Fertilize plants of lamp that were planted in the autumn with slightly high in nitrogen fertiliser (promotes growth). Fertilize perennial and deciduous trees and shrubs. Fertilize (with iron and trace minerals), wisteria, roses and other plants that tend to be yellow in mid summer.
3. Prepare your lawn mower by cleaning and sharpening the blades. If there is no snow on the ground, rake and aerate bluegrass and Fescue lawns. This will make the lawn ready for pre-emergent.
4. If you had problems with weeds and crabgrass in your lawn, March is the best month to spray pre-emergent. (In warmer areas of gardening, the last half of February will work as well.) This is really the only thing that will help with crabgrass to cut it. You must do so early enough that the crabgrass (and other weeds) does not have a chance to germinate.
5. Deep water trees, shrubs and Roses as needed.
6. Plant: pansies, calendulas, snapdragons and balled and burlapped container and trees and bushes, bare root roses, plant seeds, peas, onions, carrots, lettuce, spinach, beets, Swiss chard Switzerland and radishes, planting seedlings of broccoli, cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts and cauliflowerpotatoes, asparagus, planting bare-root and rhubarb, bare-root grapes, raspberries, strawberries and fruit trees, perennial seeds and in warmer areas, perennial plants.
7. divide and moderate to transplant perennial in warmer areas of gardening.
